A winter photo workshop in Budapest lets us capture the city’s winter beauty while learning from experts. We visit iconic locations like the Parliament Building, Buda Castle, and Chain Bridge, all beautifully enhanced by snow and festive lights. Guided by professional photographers, we practice techniques for winter light, composition, and twilights photography.
The workshop also includes tips on protecting our equipment in cold weather and sessions on post-processing winter photos. Additionally, we immerse ourselves in local culture, photographing Christmas markets, holiday decorations, and everyday street scenes. This blend of hands-on learning and cultural exploration makes for a comprehensive photography experience.
* Sunrise: Start your day at Lake Bled, one of Slovenia’s most iconic locations. Capture the serene morning light over the lake, with the picturesque Bled Island and its church in the foreground, and the Julian Alps providing a majestic backdrop.
* Daytime: Explore the lakeside, visiting Bled Castle perched on a cliff above the lake for panoramic views. Photograph traditional Pletna boats and the snowy lakeshore.
* Sunset: Position yourself to capture the sunset over Lake Bled. The changing light provides a perfect opportunity to photograph the castle, island, and reflections on the tranquil waters.
* Sunrise: Depart early for Jamnik, known for the Church of St. Primus and Felician. This hilltop church offers breathtaking views, with the Kamnik-Savinja Alps in the distance. The sunrise illuminates the landscape, creating a magical scene with snow-covered fields and forests.
* Daytime: Spend time exploring the surrounding areas of Jamnik, capturing the rolling hills and traditional Slovenian farmhouses.
* Sunset: Travel to Lake Bohinj, another jewel of the Julian Alps. Bohinj is less touristy and more serene than Bled, offering pristine natural beauty. Capture the sunset over the lake, with the reflections of the snow-covered peaks in the water, and explore nearby attractions like the Savica Waterfall.
* Sunrise: Begin your day at Sveti Tomaz, known for the Church of St. Thomas. This church is situated on a hill with a dramatic backdrop of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The sunrise here offers spectacular lighting, perfect for capturing the church and its surroundings in warm, golden hues.
* Daytime: Enjoy free time in Bled to relax, explore, or review your photos. Consider visiting local attractions or taking a stroll around the lake.
* Sunset: Return to Lake Bled for another sunset shoot. This allows you to capture the iconic scene with different lighting conditions and perspectives, ensuring a diverse portfolio of this stunning location.
Road to Hallstatt, accommodation, common dinner.
* Morning:
* Sunrise at Hallstatt Lake: Start early to capture the serene beauty of Hallstatt Lake at sunrise. The village of Hallstatt, with its iconic church spire, traditional alpine houses, and reflections in the calm water, is especially enchanting with a dusting of snow.
* Village Exploration: Walk through the narrow, snow-covered streets of Hallstatt, photographing the charming architecture, colorful facades, and cozy corners. Capture candid shots of local life and details of traditional buildings, all enhanced by the winter ambiance.
* Afternoon:
* Hallstatt Skywalk: Take the funicular up to the Hallstatt Skywalk for panoramic views of the village, lake, and surrounding snow-capped mountains. The bird’s-eye view offers a unique perspective and stunning photo opportunities.
* Cultural Sites: Visit and photograph notable sites such as the Hallstatt Salt Mine, one of the oldest salt mines in the world, and the Beinhaus (Bone House) in St. Michael’s Chapel. The winter setting adds a unique mood to these historic locations.
* Evening:
* Sunset at Hallstatt Lake: Capture the village as it lights up in the evening, with the setting sun casting a warm glow over the snow-covered landscape and lake.
* Night Photography: After sunset, photograph the village illuminated at night, with reflections on the lake creating magical compositions. The winter lights and holiday decorations can add an extra layer of charm.
* Morning:
* Sunrise at Gosausee: Travel to Gosausee, a beautiful mountain lake surrounded by the Dachstein Mountains. Capture the stunning reflections of the snow-covered peaks in the lake during the golden hour.
* Exploring Gosausee: Walk around the lake, finding different vantage points to photograph the pristine waters, snow-covered peaks, and possibly ice formations.
* Afternoon:
* Obertraun and Dachstein Krippenstein: Head to Obertraun and take the cable car up to the Dachstein Krippenstein. Photograph the breathtaking winter views of the Dachstein Glacier and the surrounding alpine scenery.
* Five Fingers Lookout: Visit the Five Fingers Lookout for panoramic views of the Alps. This location offers dramatic landscapes and impressive natural beauty in winter.
* Evening:
* Return to Hallstatt for Sunset: Conclude the workshop back in Hallstatt, capturing the village at sunset from different viewpoints to add variety to your winter portfolio.
* Final Review and Feedback: Gather for a final review session, where professional photographers provide feedback on your work, helping you refine your skills and techniques.
