The exciting capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh is surrounded by a handful of castles that once reined over various parts of Scotland. Before the glimpse into the main one Edinburgh Castle, we will explore medieval sites of the city defined nooks in Old Town. St. Giles Cathedral, Parliament Square, and John Knox House are part of the “Royal Mile” experience, which is named so because of the royal residences on both ends of the walking stretch, and most definitely, round it all with a bang at the castle. But our main spot is Calton Hill, great place for taking both sunrise and sunset photos. Situated at the east end of Princes Street, which runs approximately east to west, it means that the sun rises behind it in the morning gradually illuminating the streets below while in the evening there’s a great view along Princes Street towards the setting sun.
En route to Glencoe, in the heart of the Highlands, lies the Glen Etive road which affords twelve miles of magnificent Scottish scenery. From vast moorlands and incredible mountains, to clear lochs and stunning valleys, there is so much to admire on this glorious drive. Not only is this known to be one of Scotland’s most beautiful drives, it has also played its part in James Bond’s Skyfall film. Bond author Ian Fleming, had a lodge in this incredible glen and the road was used as a feature location in the 2012 production.
Our goal on this road is Etive Mor Waterfall. It is a very popular place for photographers and it’s easy to see why when you visit this iconic and awesome Scottish location.
Fort William is a magnet for devotees of the Scottish Highlands and especially for those who love open air pursuits. Known as the “outdoor capital of the UK”, the town and surrounding area are packed full of things to do in all seasons. We came here to take a photo of Hogwarts Express steam train, or the Jacobite as it’s also known. Running from Fort William to Mallaig and back, the route is stunning whatever the weather. It’s been called the most beautiful railway in the world many times – add in this special steam train and it’s an experience not to be missed. The Glenfinnan Viaduct – also known as the “Harry Potter bridge” – with its views of Loch Shiel is breathtaking.
Probably the most photographed castle in Scotland, spectacularly sited on an island at the head of Loch Duich. Eilean Donan was involved in many raids and sieges, reduced to rubble and authentically reconstructed to its medieval state in the mid 1900s. Several of the rooms are open to the public, including the billeting room, with 14-foot thick walls and a barrel-vaulted ceiling, and the banqueting hall, with fine Sheraton and Chippendale furniture.
We will spend 2 days overthere. The spot of the first sunset is Neist Point. It is one of the most famous lighthouses in Scotland and can be found on the most westerly tip of Skye near the township of Glendale. While the walk down is an easy one, the concrete path does get quite steep at times. From the path you will see stunning views of the high cliffs and the lighthouse itself, at sunset the view is made even more spectacular making this a top destination for landscape photographers.
Skye is a truly magical place. The largest of the Inner Hebrides, it’s home to some of Scotland’s most iconic landscapes. Whether you want to visit the Isle of Skye for a few days whilst on a tour of Scotland or stay for a longer spell, the island has countless ways to enchant you, with its mountain ranges, miles of dramatic coastline and captivating history. Bring your sense of adventure! For the the sunrise we will try to get Old Man of Storr. The most popular location on Skye for visitors. It’s a 50 minute relentless uphill hike from the car park to get the best viewpoints.
The Cairngorms National Park is a truly breathtaking national park that encapsulates the true essence and outstanding beauty of Scotland with the spectaculor Cairngorm mountain range and the surrounding area with the park radius. We will explore the best viewpoints here.
